"My Feelings Diary"

Do you still maintain a hand written diary? I'm sincere, I don't anymore but I remember writing in my diaries till I was 20. Today our diaries are mostly public as we spend more time on social media.

However, I would love to help my children cultivate the habit of keeping diaries and learning to keep private and intimate things only to themselves.

With that in mind I created the "My Feelings Diary". It's an 11-page resource with a cover page for the child's diary, 9 pages with the emotions: excited, surprised, upset, worried, happy, sad, silly, shy and angry and an extra page only with writing lines for those children who love to express themselves in words.

Feelings Posters

 

Here's a cool activity to add to your morning circles.

This resource is made up of 2 feelings posters and 9 emotions with titles.

The first poster "How are you feeling today?" will help you to introduce the different emotions to your children and build their vocabulary.

The second poster "Today I'm feeling..." can be printed behind the first one and used by the child to stick the emotion and its name on the corresponding circle and rectangle respectively.

The other two posters will have to be cut out and stuck with velcro dots. I recommend laminating all the 4 posters for durability.

My Feelings Journal

How important do you feel it is to ask your children how they're feeling?

We all go through those times when we feel nobody seems to understand me or cares about what I feel etc.

As adults I wouldn't say it's easier for us to deal with certain emotions but we definitely ought to be more capable than we were as children. Hence, life's past experiences help us to deal and look at things differently than we would have when we were younger.

So, the point is our children don't have a bag full of life's experiences. They have no idea how to deal with their emotions. Many a times, they don't have the right vocabulary to express their feelings and thoughts. However, we can assure them that we're listening by spending some time with them daily and asking them how they're day went.

In a homeschool setup, you can start right at the beginning of the day by asking them how they feel.

In order to do so, I've done all the work for you. I've created a "My Feelings Journal" which has 12 pages for every month of the year with the images of feelings and what they mean on the top of the page along with the calendar for the entire month. This will give your child a sense of time and help him/her understand how the days and months pass by. Included are also 9 cut and paste pages with different kinds of emotions: Excited, Surprised, Upset, Worried, Happy, Sad, Silly, Shy and Angry.

Nursery Rhymes Coloring Book

 

Did you ever ask yourself why you were taught nursery rhymes in the early years?

I did and I even wondered why some words didn't may any sense and yet we sung them!

One example would be the words "jiggety jig" and "jiggety jog" in the rhyme "to marker to market"

Well, I found out that nursery rhymes are fundamental to reinforce language.

Don't take it for granted that all children can rhyme words or can find the rhyming words.

When children learn to rhyme, that means they have had good foundations laid down to build those language skills.

So, having said that... I have created two nursery rhyme coloring books to make them even more fun.
